The german Federal Administrative Court (Bundesverwaltungsgericht) has just announced a few minutes ago that a basic driving ban on diesel autos is permissible. According to the court in Leipzig, the cities of Duesseldorf and Stuttgart, which are complained of, would have to check their air pollution control plans for proportionality.
A brief assessment from our side: The court speaks of driving bans that are “exceptionally” allowed and of the need to preserve proportionality! If you read the full text by the court, you notice that there will probably be no blanket municipal prohibitions! That´s a good thing for the automakers. Their stock losses of the last hour have slowed down and prices are only slightly negative!
