Euro Area Consumer prices continue to weaken, food prices far above the ECB’s target at +2.5%

The Euro Area Consumer prices for January have just been published as a preliminary estimate. They rose by 1.3% year-on-year. The previous month’s increase was 1.4%, and today’s expectations were 1.3%.

The core rate (excluding energy and food) is now 1.0% compared to 0.9% in December.

Food prices are up by 2.5% (ECB target is 2,0% or near by 2,0%).
