Current: US real estate data – the expected catastrophe

US construction starts (April) were even more catastrophic than expected. At -30.2% to an annual rate of 0.891 million. (The forecast was an annual rate of 0.927 million; previous month was -22.3%, now revised upwards to -18.6%).

US building permits fell slightly less dramatically than expected. They fell -20.8% to an annual rate of 1.074 million (forecast was an annual rate of 1.00 million. Previous month’s forecast was -7.0% to an annual rate of 1.350 million, now revised upwards to -5.7% to 1.356 million).
