The US employment market data (December) was somewhat weaker than expected with 145,000 new jobs. The forecast was 164,000 new jobs. The two previous months were revised downwards by a total of 14,000 jobs.
US hourly wages are up 0.1% month-on-month and 2.9% year-on-year (the smallest increase since July 2018!). The forecast was +0.3% for the previous month and +3.1% for the same month last year. The previous month was +0.2% and +3.1%).
The US unemployment rate is 3.5% (forecast was 3.5%; previous month was 3.5%).
The participation (shares) rate is 63.2% (forecast was 63.2%; previous month was 63.2%).
