Finally some good news in the fight against the corona virus! Bosch has just announced that they have developed a rapid test that takes less than 2 1/2 hours from taking the sample to the result. It should be available in April. The COVID 19 rapid test from Bosch will help contain the spread of the pandemic and break through chains of infection more quickly, according to the current headline statement by Bosch’s boss, Dr. Volkmar Denner. It is a fully automated COVID 19 rapid test. It can help medical facilities such as doctors’ offices, hospitals, laboratories, and health centers to make a rapid diagnosis.
The rapid molecular diagnostic test is used on the known Vivalytic analysis device from Bosch Healthcare Solutions. According to Bosch, this rapid test for coronavirus can simultaneously diagnose ten respiratory pathogens for differential diagnosis and meets the requirements of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Here are other interesting statements from Bosch, in extracts in the wording:
The new test can be performed directly at the site of clinical treatment. Transport routes, which cost valuable time, are no longer necessary. Patients quickly gain certainty about their state of health. So infected persons can be identified and isolated immediately. With the tests currently in use, patients usually have to expect waiting times of one to two days.
In various laboratory tests with SARS-CoV2, the Bosch test delivered results with an accuracy of over 95 percent. The rapid test meets the quality standards of the World Health Organization (WHO). The sample is taken from a patient’s nose or throat using a swab. The cartridge, which already contains all the reagents required for the test, will be inserted into the Vivalytic device for analysis. The medical staff can devote themselves to other tasks during the analysis, such as treating patients. The Vivalytic analyser is also so user-friendly that even untrained medical personnel can reliably perform the test evaluation.
With a Vivalytic analyzer from Bosch, up to ten tests can be performed within 24 hours. With just 100 devices, up to 1,000 tests can be evaluated per day. Due to the dynamic spread of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, the laboratories are already working at full capacity. With Vivalytic, Bosch is creating additional testing capacity.
